Amiret Post Office

The post office building is from Amiret, MN, located about 10 miles from Tracy. The building was moved to the museum site after its closing in 1989, and served as the post office for about 20 years. Prior to that, the building was used as the Saratoga Archery Clubhouse.

At any given time there were about 40 post office box holders, and all 61 of the original post boxes can be found inside. The post office was one of the smallest in Minnesota, and often garnered attention when it was in operation for its unique feature of an outhouse, which was located right behind the post office. Postmaster Lucille Buck purchased and began operations out of the building in the 1960s with her husband, Melvin Buck.

Prior to this, mail delivery was from a variety of private homes and businesses. Kathleen Wilkison was postmaster when the post office shut its doors over 20 years later. In 1992, Amiret adopted the Tracy area postcode, 56175.

The building now holds memorabilia of the Amiret Community Band, which furnished music at hometown activities and at celebrations in nearby cities and towns for many years, along with other artifacts of the Amiret community.
